Captivity

captivity

We failed in this room! It was just the two of us and we were doomed from the start haha. Just awful searching and bad communication. It’s a 60 minute room and honestly, good teams will do this room in probably half the time. We aren’t a good team lol.

Challenge level:

Lamya – This is actually a decent beginner room (lol even more that we didn’t finish). The website says a third of the people who try the room escape and that seems about right to me. They even break down the different skills necessary to escape and in this room, 40% of the challenge is searching, which we were surprisingly horrible at. But that’s what makes it a decent room for rookies.

Jason – This happens to Lamya and I a lot. We fail a hard room but we feel so stupid and all the answers look like any other group would be able to solve them immediately. But maybe the room is difficult for a reason? Anyway, this room is easier than Locked Room says it is. We had TWO problems with simple searching that ate a lot of minutes out of our time. Otherwise we would have escaped quite early. This room is an official fail but they did give us an extra couple minutes to finish the room and we got out. We were that close, even after all our stumbling.

Creativity:

Lamya – I keep trying to look at it from the perspective of someone who’s never done an escape room, but this theme and the room itself are pretty uninspired. The puzzles aren’t terribly original but it kind of feels like that may be intentional, as in, if you’re not worried about story or anything like that and just want to power through a room, then this is a good choice.

Jason – Lamya and I have been locked up by a crazed serial killer a lot in the past year. I think this theme is getting a bit stale, which is too bad because there are so many possibilities that you can explore with these type of room. I think starting rooms with some of the people separated from each other is a good challenge but after that you need to get a little more creative with your puzzles.

Wow Factor:

Lamya – Nope. Lol. Even for beginners, you’ll be able to spot what is supposed to happen at almost every turn.

Jason – No wows.

Overall :

Lamya – As is apparent in my comments above, this is a basic room. There’s nothing wrong with that, as long as you know you’re not getting anything mind-blowing. A good place to start with rookies or those who’ve just done a few rooms (and those who aren’t squeamish).

Jason – It frustrates me so much when we fail a really difficult room that seems so much easier than it is. This is one of the downsides of doing rooms as a duo. I think this room has a good challenge to it but nothing excites me too much. I think Locked Room has some rooms that are much more fun than this but it’s still a good starter room or intermediate room.
